Arkansas State Police confirms stolen charter bus leads to chase, arrest in North Little Rock

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Arkansas State Police confirmed that authorities were in a chase involving a stolen bus Thursday morning.

According to ASP officials, a suspect stole a charter bus in Little Rock, leading state troopers on a chase into North Little Rock.

In a release sent Thursday night, ASP officials identified the suspect arrested as 29-year-old Elvin Richard of Lonoke County.

ASP officials said the bus was stolen from Little Rock around 3 a.m. Authorities said the chase began when Richard fled from troopers around 7:40 a.m. on eastbound Interstate 40 before turning onto Highway 161 and then onto the railroad tracks.

Police said Richard then drove into the Union Pacific Rail Yard Terminal at 1020 West Bethany in North Little Rock before a trooper disabled the bus by shooting at its tires.

Authorities said Richard, who they noted was not injured, was arrested and later transferred to the Pulaski County Detention Center.

State police said the ASP Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the officer-involved shooting portion of the incident and the Little Rock Police Department is investigating the theft of the bus.

Officials said there were no passengers on the bus.
