JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ark. – White Hall student Benjamen Redix was shot and killed in what police say was an accidental shooting before his graduation in May of 2023. Now his family is honoring his legacy by recognizing other athletes under the Friday night lights.

The award is called Beast of the Week and goes to one football player who really stood out each week in Jefferson County.

Benjamen Redix had a full ride track scholarship and played football for White Hall. That’s where the phrase “beast mode” became part of his life, using it on and off the field.

His family started the Benjamen Redix Project to honor him after his death, and the Beast of the Week award is one of many ways they’re doing that.

Each week the family will look at players’ stats in Jefferson County from the game and pick one from each school. Then the public will get to vote weekly.

Shaneisha Robinson, Redix’s mother, and Shannon Robinson, Redix’s uncle, said that they’re excited to continue his legacy, and hopes it encourages all student athletes in Jefferson County.

“The goal is not actually just in football, but to go beast mode in everything that you do, you go beast mode in your classroom,” Shaneisha Robinson said.

Voting takes place the following Monday through Wednesday and the winner is announced every Thursday. The award includes a trophy and t-shirt, and of course bragging rights in Jefferson County.
