Little Rock police make arrest in October 2023 deadly shooting investigation

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Little Rock Police Department said an arrest has been made in a deadly shooting investigation from 2023.

LRPD officials said 24-year-old Joshua Johnson was arrested in connection with the death of 23-year-old Kumari Mayes.

On Oct. 3, 2023, authorities said officers responded to a shooting at 8500 Keller Drive just after 9 p.m. When the officers arrived, they said they found a Mayes suffering from a gunshot wound on his neck.

Police said Mayes was taken to a hospital for treatment before he eventually died from his wounds on May 28, 2024.

Authorities said Johnson is facing a charge of first-degree murder.

Department officials said the investigation into the shooting is still ongoing.
