    What’s happening in central Arkansas this weekend (Sept. 13-15)

    LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – There is plenty to do this weekend in central Arkansas whether you like shopping, running, eating or visiting giant trains.

    This weekend, the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra celebrates the grand opening of its first-ever headquarters, the Stella Boyle Smith Music Center. From Friday until Sunday, there will be celebrations including a parade Saturday morning that runs from the Riverfront Amphitheater to the music center near the Clinton Library.

    For those that like shopping, Vintage Market Days of Little Rock will be happening at the Arkansas State Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. There will be local vendors and artists with clothing, home décor, jewelry, food and much more.

    On Saturday morning, Camp Robinson in North Little Rock will open its gates for Minuteman Day 2024 . The event will feature a variety of events including cross country races, an Army combat fitness competition, JROTC color guard and drill competitions, a BBQ cookoff and entertainment for kids.

    Also happening Saturday morning will be the Paint the City Blue 5K at War Memorial Park. The event is a collaboration between the Cassandra Cares Cancer Foundation and the Colon Cancer Coalition and is designed to raise funds and remember those affected by colorectal cancer. There will also be food, music, costumes and fun for kids.

    Happening Sunday evening, Union Pacific Railroad in North Little Rock will be hosting Big Boy No. 4014 , the world’s largest operating steam locomotive. The 1.1-million-pound train will be on display for the public from 5 until 7 p.m. to take pictures and learn more about its history.

    Finally, this is also the final weekend of Central Arkansas Restaurant Weeks , an event running until Friday Sept. 20. As part of the festivities, several restaurants from the central Arkansas area have made dishes available that come as a three-course meal for dinner and benefit the Arkansas Foodbank.
