LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Little Rock Zoo celebrated World Rhino Day Sunday, while raising awareness to help preserve the endangered animals.

Two rhinos, 18-year-old black rhino Andazi and her son, 3-year-old Kevin, live at the Little Rock Zoo.

The zoo is a part of an international program that works to breed endangered animals like rhinos, who, unfortunately, are still poached for their horns.

Rhinos have also seen a loss of habitat and other challenges to their survival.

“We are part of the black rhino Species Survival Plan , or SSP, that kind of acts like an online dating program for all rhinos in captivity,” Little Rock Zoo rhinoceros caretaker Justin Marrin said.

A portion of the proceeds from Sunday’s event will go to the International Rhino Foundation.
