LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Saturday was a special day for the city of Little Rock; a hidden gem that locals enjoyed since 1991 is back after being damaged from the March 31 tornado.

Rock Creek Trail has officially reopened, and Karne Sykes, Little Rock Volunteer Coordinator says she’s more than excited for what’s to come.

“Park staff has been working hard, we used federal dollars to hire contractors to get things up and running and I’m just happy it’s back open,” Skyes said.

‘It’s not just an eyesore, it’s a danger,’ Frustrations mounting around Little Rock homeless encampment behind summer camp

The trail was left covered in trash from the storm, but with all hands-on deck, everything was cleaned thanks to those who volunteered, like Jordan Thomas.

“I pulled this whole camo tent out of the creek back there,” Thomas said.

The beautification was well needed, and Thomas was one of many to come across items that had been sitting for months.

Another group called “Gay For Good” pitched in as well, ensuring each path was clear.

Little Rock business owner said homeless encampment continues to be a ‘safety concern’

Volunteer Lisa Smith said it feels good to be getting the trail back the way it was.

“We have things that are stacked head high and further, and it’s just good to be out here in nature and doing a good thing,” Smith said.

There were over 100 volunteers in total, with more than 30 bags of trash and everyone was thankful that Rock Creek Trail is now clear, ready for nature lovers to enjoy.
