SHERWOOD, Ark. – Saturday the Rotary Club of Sherwood “conquered the climb” with their 5k race where many families, pets and teachers in the community came out for a great cause.

All the proceeds from the race go towards the Rotary Club’s community service projects that include youth programs such as summer readings and their healthy smiles event where they teach kids about dental hygiene.

The race also helps with scholarships that benefit local students.

Race director Kyle Blakely said this is the 12th year for the race.

“I think everyone should put forth some effort to help their community. We live in our communities, work in our communities, we want our communities to thrive and the only way to do that is together,” Blakely said.

Blakely said this year had the most 5k runners there has been.

Runner and Sylvan Hills teacher Tim Sisk said that support from the Rotary Club helps transcend what teachers are able to create in the classroom.

“Being able to support them and actually have them support me creates a relationship that transcends what we can create in the classroom,” Sisk said.
