FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Halloween is just over a month away and the Spirit Halloween stores have moved into a vacant building near you.

Spirit Halloween is a costume store that is usually open during the fall season but disappears at the start of November.

Across not only Arkansas but the entire country, these stores pop up in vacant buildings where businesses have closed.

How does Spirit Halloween choose its locations?

Spirit Halloween’s website shows what each location used to be before it became a temporary costume store.

    • Former Sears – 201 Skyline Drive in Conway
    • Former Dillards Men’s – 5111 Rogers Avenue in Fort Smith
    • Former Abercrombie & Fitch – 4201 North Shiloh Drive, Suite 1560 in Fayetteville
    • Former Overstock Furniture – 2308 South Caraway Road in Jonesboro
    • Did not specify – 6000 West Markham Street, Suite 2090 in Little Rock
    • Former Tuesday Morning – 2747 Lakewood Village Drive in North Little Rock
    • Former Rack Room – 271 North 46th Street in Rogers

In other states, Spirit Halloween has locations in buildings that used to house retailers such as Forever 21 and Bed Bath and Beyond , which previously filed for bankruptcy in the last few years.

However, some locations pop up in spots where a major retailer, such as Office Depot, Walmart, or Staples is no longer using the space.
