LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Arkansas students will soon be required to complete volunteer hours to graduate high school.

This is part of the Arkansas LEARNS Act, and it begins with the class of 2027. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission hopes to help students meet this requirement.

Act 237 within the LEARNS Act requires students set to graduate during the 2026-2027 school year to complete 75 hours of community service during their high school career to graduate.

The AGFC decided to help and partner with school districts and students to help them get those hours. AGFC says current freshmen and sophomores are required to have the 75 volunteer hours.

Mary Beth Hatch, director of education for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission said they currently have opportunities for students in the areas of conservation, restoration, clean-up events and more.

“Thirty-five school districts who have filled out our form on our website under the volunteer section on our websites to become what we call a partner school district with us,” Hatch said.

Districts who request opportunities will be told about events in their area as they come up.

Tight as bark on a tree. Make them promises of a bright future with the AG&F commission while getting that free labor with no intentions of hiring them unless there is a political favor involved.
