LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – People living along Calgary Trail in west Little Rock woke up to sirens blaring amid a police standoff.

Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office officials said a deputy was attempting to serve an eviction notice at a home in the 1600 block of Calgary Trail when someone started firing gunshots from inside the house.

Pulaski County deputies, the Little Rock Police Department, Arkansas State Police and crisis negotiators responded to the standoff.

Damon Hill said he stepped outside and saw several police officers driving by at a high rate of speed to the scene of the standoff. Before the suspect was taken into custody, Hill expressed concern that the situation would escalate.

“Hopefully it does not escalate to something real serious to where they have to storm the home, you know, because God knows who’s in the house,” Hill said.

Authorities said negotiators had several communications with the man who had barricaded himself in the home, but he finally came out around 2:30 p.m. and was taken into custody without incident.

“Our deputy was not hurt during this particular incident,” a PCSO spokesperson said. “As you can see from the cars behind, all law enforcement agencies have responded to the scene.”
