EL DORADO, Ark. ( KTVE/KARD ) — On October 15, 2024, detectives of the El Dorado Police Department reported that skeletal remains were discovered around a railroad track near Hillsboro Street. Local resident Charles Slaughter was the man who found the remains.

It’s like a hobby. Bottles and just found some trees that were blew over there were real old trees. And I dug up some stuff like this. There’s a piece I dug out the tree. Here’s a piece. These are old things that Native Americans made.

Slaughter was out looking for artifacts, something he usually does, when he stumbled upon the skeletal remains. He immediately contacted the El Dorado Police Department and reported what he found.

I’ve seen a lot of skeletons, and I knew that was a leg bone. And I turned around here, and the other one was laying right here, and I thought, Well, there’s another leg. The skull was laying, like, right in here. Maybe right there. Pretty small. Not very big at all.

The city of EL Dorado has had several people go missing within the past few years. Identifying the condition of the bones is important because it will help detectives determine how long the remains have been there.

Looked really good yeah. Didn’t look very old at all and it had good color, too. You know, it wasn’t damaged in any way that I could tell. No teeth. I didn’t see no teeth. I didn’t see no bottom jaw. It was kind of like half, half in the ground. It kind of sunk in a little bit. But you could tell the top. Because one of the officers said that the top of that skill looked kind of strange because it was flat in the front.

Officials reportedly found a skull and leg bones at the scene, and the remains were sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for identification. No further information is available.
