MISSOURI – The state of Missouri has approved a proposal for Ameren to build, own and operate three solar farms in the state.

The solar farms will be located in Warren County, Bowling Green and Vandalia.

Ameren says each one will have a capacity of 400 megawatts. That’s enough to power 73,000 homes. Leaders hope all are in order by the end of 2026.

“Thoughtfully integrating these new, low-cost energy sources with our existing generation fleet is one of the ways Ameren Missouri is providing our customers with the reliable, resilient and affordable energy they expect,” said Mark Birk, chairman and president of Ameren Missouri via a news release.

Ameren also agreed to study the use of grazing animals in and around the solar farms to see if it reduced operation and maintenance.

The company has only announced a natural gas energy center in Missouri, and that will only run when needed.
