MISSOURI – Three cities in the Greater St. Louis Metropolitan Area were recently named among the Top 10 “safest cities” in Missouri, according to the newest edition of an annual report.

Home security company Safewise recently released its annual “Safest Cities in Missouri” list for 2024. The list is created by examining crime rates calculated by the FBI . Safewise also evaluates results from a “state of safety” survey to determine how concerned residents in certain municipalities feel about crime.

According to Safewise, the safest city in Missouri is Cottleville. It’s a distinction that Safewise has given Cottleville for at least the second straight year .

The following St. Louis-area cities came within the Top 10:

    • Cottleville (No. 1)
    • Glendale (No. 3)
    • Ballwin (No. 7)

And the following St. Louis-area cities came within the Top 20:

    • O’Fallon (No. 12)
    • Crystal City (No. 16)
    • Lake St. Louis (No. 19)
    • Wright City (No. 20)

The Top 10 safest cities all reported fewer than 1.1 violent crimes per 1,000 residents. Cottleville had a violent crime rate of 0.2 per 1,000 residents and a property crime rate of 2.7 per 1,000 residents. Both of those were among the best rates in the state.

As for Missouri, Safewise reports that its violent crime and property crimes rates – 5.6 and 24.4 per 1,000 people – are slightly above national average. Both slightly increased from last year.
