ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis Dog Bar is set to celebrate a man travelling across the country seeking to break the Guinness World Record for the longest barefoot hike.

Anton Nootenboom, also known as the Barefoot Dutchman, is a Dutch Army veteran who is traveling across 13 states in an effort to raise awareness for men’s mental health.

After beginning his journey at Monica Beach in Los Angeles on February 17 , Nootenboom is scheduled to break the record once he enters St. Louis on August 11.

In honor of the journey, Bar K is hosting an event that will give others the opportunity to be a part of history with Nootenboom.

Bar K is calling for interested participants to meet at Forest Park’s Steinberg Skating Rink’s Parking Lot at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 11, to walk the final two miles to break the Guinness World Record with Nootenboom and his dog, Oreo.

The walk will begin at 11 a.m., and the group will travel the remaining two miles to Bar K, where Nootenboom will officially break the Guinness World Record for the longest barefoot hike.

The celebration will begin at Bar K around noon Sunday, as attendees will be able to hear from Nootenboom and enjoy live music from artist Mick Byrd.

Nootenboom previously held the Guinness World Record for the longest barefoot hike after travelling over 1,800 miles along the east coast of Australia in 2021. His record was broken by Paweł Durakiewicz , who set the record by walking 2,118.72 miles barefoot around the Iberian Peninsula in April.

After breaking the record in St. Louis on Sunday, Nootenboom will keep his shoes off and hit the road again as he looks to expand his record by travelling to New York City.
