Man drags officer with vehicle after hiding out for months

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — A man is under arrest for multiple crimes after ramming a police vehicle, a high-speed chase, going into hiding for months, and then dragging the officer into a busy intersection. Kamronn Smith, 29, now faces charges that include assault, resisting arrest, and property damage. He is currently being held on a $750,000 cash-only bond.

The charges stem from an incident on April 27, 2024, when a St. Louis County Police officer responded to a domestic disturbance call. The officer saw Smith leaving the scene in a black Chevy Impala. As the officer attempted to stop Smith from leaving, he allegedly accelerated his vehicle, colliding with the officer’s police car. The collision caused significant damage to the police vehicle.

Smith then led officers on a high-speed chase that was eventually called off due to the dangerous nature of the pursuit. He was able to hide from the police for months after the incident.

Court document state that officers drove by Smith’s home near the intersection of Chambers and Halls Ferry roads Wednesday in a marked police vehicle to see if he was there. They saw Smith exit the home and get into a Jeep Compass. Police tried to pull him over but Smith accelerated, dragging an officer into a busy intersection.

Later that day, police tracked Smith to an apartment complex, where he attempted to flee again, this time in a red Dodge Charger. Officers deployed a tire deflation device, stopping the car and arresting Smith.
