St. Louis listed as city facing a pest surge this fall

ST. LOUIS – As the summer months transition to autumn, St. Louis residents are being warned about a possible surge of pests that could be coming to the area.

St. Louis is listed as one of the top U.S. cities preparing for pest surges this upcoming fall season.

The report was released in the National Pest Management Association’s (NPMA) bi-annual Vector Sectors list, which identifies cities most likely to face disease-carrying pests due to revolving weather patterns.

NPMA reports that due to the dry and warm conditions in St. Louis this past summer, populations of flies and cockroaches could be attracted indoors in search of food and water.

According to the CDC, vector-borne diseases have increased significantly since 2004, with more than a million cases being reported between 2001 and 2023 in the U.S.

The other cities the NPMA listed that could face pest surges include:

• Greensboro, NC
• Hartford, CT
• Houston, Texas
• Milwaukee, WI
• Multiple Florida Cities
• New Orleans, LA
• Sacramento, CA
• Salt Lake City, UT
