ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A west St. Louis County mother of five was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking home from work and police are looking for the driver responsible.

Investigators with the St. Louis County Police Department said Julisa Cannon was walking home from her job at a local Pizza Hut last Friday around 10:30 p.m. when she was struck by a driver near the intersection of Crescent Avenue and Meramec Station Road. The driver fled the scene.

Cannon’s family is devastated and heartbroken while trying to come to grips with the unthinkable.

“Julisa had a beautiful soul. She would give the shirt off her back,” Stephanie Joshua, Julisa’s mother, said. “And for somebody just to run her down like a dog in the street and don’t even stop to see if what they hit… how can you do that?”

According to the family, Cannon just started working at the Pizza Hunt and would walk to and from work, which normally takes about 15 minutes.

Residents in the area said the intersection where Cannon lost her life is dangerous.

“I lived here 13 years, and I’ve seen deer hit here, two cars turned over on the corner,” Robert Bailey said. “It’s just a dangerous intersection. I heard the noise and it was louder than all the deer getting hit.”

Cannon leaves behind five children: three girls and twin boys, ranging in ages from 1 to 16. Devante McCor, the father of three of the kids, is heartbroken as the search continues for the person responsible.

“How could you do something like and leave the scene and not check and see what you hit or just leave period?” he said. “…a very evil person (just to) keep going.”

Nora West, Cannon’s friend, described her as a loving mother.

“I can’t believe this tragedy happened like this. Whoever did this, I hope they catch them,” West said.

The family has set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses and assist Cannon’s children.

The department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons is investigating the crash.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact the St. Louis County Police Department at 636-529-8210. If you wish to remain anonymous or are interested in a cash reward, call CrimeStoppers at 866-371-8477.
