ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis man will appear in court this coming week after fatally shooting his estranged wife’s son inside the home they shared.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s probable cause statement, the shooting happened around 2 a.m. on August 24 in the 5000 block of Ruskin Avenue, located in the Mark Twain neighborhood.

Police said Johnny J. Curry, 37, occasionally stays at his estranged wife’s home, along with the woman’s son and a third person.

On the morning of the shooting, Curry and his estranged wife got into an argument over trash, police said. At one point, she asked Curry to leave but he refused.

The woman called her son, identified as Ryan Alexander, to help her get Curry out of the home. Police said Curry pointed a gun at Alexander and the two men got into a fight. Both men fell to the ground, and Curry took his gun and shot Alexander in the head, killing him instantly. Alexander was 19.

Curry ran from the home and fired shots at the other person who lived at the residence.

Police said they have ballistic evidence and surveillance video proving Curry fired the shots at the second victim.

The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Curry with first-degree murder, first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of armed criminal action. Curry remains jailed without bond. He’s due in court on September 3.

Very unfortunate for all concerned. 1. If you're a house guest you don't argue with the homeowner or bring a gun into the house. 2. You always seek to de- escalate, not escalate. 3 You leave when you're asked to leave.
