ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – An East St. Louis man was arrested Friday after pointing a gun at a person and running from police, leading to him colliding with a vehicle in South County.

The incident occurred around 5:38 p.m. Friday afternoon on the 200 block of Hoffmeister Avenue in the Lemay neighborhood.

According to police, a witness saw the suspect, Gregory Thompson, 44, point a firearm at a person and threaten to kill them. The witness then watched Thompson walk to a bus stop and hide the firearm in grass behind it.

When an officer made contact with Thompson, police say Thompson ran across an intersection and collided with a vehicle, damaging its front end. After the accident, Thompson was arrested, and the firearm was seized.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Thompson with resisting arrest for a felony, unlawful possession of a weapon, and second-degree property damage.

Thompson is being held on a $75,000 cash only, no 10%, bond.
