Woman charged with beating cellmate, linked to past knife attacks

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. – A House Springs woman has been charged after allegedly beating another inmate after being previously charged for two other attacks.

Melissa Herrmann is accused of beating and assaulting her fellow cellmate on July 16 at the Jefferson County Jail. The victim told officers Herrmann dragged her from her bed, punched her multiple times in the head, and choked her. She allegedly stopped only when authorities arrived at the unit.

Medical staff did not note any evident bruising or injuries, although the victim said she had a sprained shoulder.

The probable cause statement says Herrmann admitted to the assault with no regrets, stating in part, “I should’ve kept going, I shouldn’t have stopped!”

Herrmann was already being held at the Jefferson County Jail for charges with two other attacks on victims . The first involved a man waking up to Herrmann stabbing him with a pocketknife after letting her stay over. The second incident occurred in High Ridge, where Herrmann and a woman were talking when she lacerated the victim’s throat with a knife.

Related to this incident, Herrmann is being held without bond and is charged with two counts of first-degree assault. A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
