    Study shows these two are Missouri’s favorite dog breeds

    MISSOURI — Forbes Advisor did a study to uncover which dog breeds are the favorites nationwide and in each state by surveying 10,000 American dog owners.

    The study found that Australian shepherds, German shepherds, and bulldogs were the top three favorite dog breeds.

    The German Shepherd was the top favorite dog breed in 16 states (sometimes tying with another breed for first place), the highest number across the study. However, it ranked as the second most favored breed nationwide.

    The Havanese was the least favored breed in the majority of U.S. states with 33 in total, occasionally tying with other breeds for the bottom spot. The German Shorthaired Pointer ranked as the second least favored, followed by the Welsh Corgi.

    Australian shepherds and the American bulldog tied as Missouri’s favorite dog breed.

    Here are the top five breeds most commonly selected as a state’s favorite:

    According to the study, the top reason respondents chose a breed as their favorite was that they either currently own it or have owned it in the past (52%). The second most popular reason was believing the dog would make a good companion (50%).
