One dead, one injured after a fatal three-vehicle crash

MADISON COUNTY, Ill. – One person is left dead and another person injured after a fatal three-vehicle accident in Troy.

The Madison County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Patricia A. Corey, 65, of Troy, Illinois.

The crash happened just after 4 a.m. Wednesday on Interstate 55 at the northbound I-55 and eastbound I-70 split.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, and another person was transported with injuries to a nearby hospital.

Northbound I-55 was closed for an extended period at I-70. All northbound traffic was being diverted to I-70 eastbound. The roadway reopened around 7:45 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Evidence at the scene suggests the Corey may have been experiencing a diabetic emergency, according to the coroner’s office.
