JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. – A Missouri man is accused of stealing $3,300 in lottery tickets from his employer and cashing out prizes from those tickets.

The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged Joshua Karl Markhart, 25, with two felony counts of stealing amid the investigation.

Markhart allegedly stole tickets while working overnight shifts on Dec. 9 and Dec. 22 last year.

According to court documents obtained by FOX 2, surveillance video shows Markhart taking various amounts of lottery tickets throughout both shifts without paying for the tickets, then taking money from the cash register.

Court documents state that Markhart did not pay a combined total of $3,375 in lottery tickets, which had combined payouts of $2,452. Investigators did not disclose the employer that was impacted.

Markhart has a criminal summons hearing scheduled for Oct. 28, 2024, per online Missouri court records.
