    Barnhart man left dead after overnight accident on U.S. 67

    JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. – A Barnhart man was left dead after a two-vehicle accident early Friday morning on U.S. 67.

    The accident happened at around 1:45 a.m. on northbound U.S. 67 at Interstate 55, involving a semitruck.

    According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), the driver of a Chrysler Crossfire, James Nelson, 40, was traveling in the second lane when he crossed the center lane, and the right side of his vehicle struck the left side of the semitruck.

    After striking the semitruck, Nelson’s vehicle crossed over the first lane, and the left side of his vehicle struck a concrete barrier, MSHP says.

    Nelson was transported to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to his injuries and died. The driver of the semitruck was transported to a nearby hospital and is currently suffering from a moderate injury.
