Ferguson-Florissant high school on lockdown after alleged fights

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A Ferguson-Florissant School District high school went under lockdown Monday afternoon following alleged fighting inside the school.

According to the school district, McCluer North High School was placed on the precautionary lockdown, and additional police were called for support following several fights.

The school district said in a message to the district that Florissant police, school resources officers, and district security were on site at the time of the lockdown.

“Fighting in our schools will not be tolerated. Students involved in fights at school will face disciplinary action as outlined in our Student Expectation Code. Let me be clear: we expect students to come to school and be safe,” Ferguson-Florissant Superintendent, Dr. Joseph Davis, said in a statement.

The district said that no shooting took place, and movement is restricted in or out of the school for the time being.

“We are dedicated to ensuring a safe and secure environment for all and have put in place a variety of measures to enhance school safety and belonging. These include school uniforms, Yondr cell phone pouches, weapon detection systems, trauma-informed counselors, social workers, and mental health resources for students, among other initiatives. But we cannot do this alone. We need our parents and families to join us in encouraging students to make responsible choices. Working together, we will maintain safe schools,” said Dr. Joseph Davis.
