ST. LOUIS – One woman was hurt and two suspects are wanted after a dispute escalated to an attack at the Saint Louis Zoo over the weekend.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department reports that officers responded to an assault around 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the zoo that reportedly involved five people.

Investigators say one female suspect was using profanities toward a child at the zoo before the child’s mother confronted her. A short time later, the suspect allegedly slapped the mother in the head.

After that, police say the mother’s husband intervened and tried to protect her by punching the alleged perpetrator. Then, the second suspect, a man, grabbed the husband’s shirt and attempted to punch him but missed.

At some point, investigators say the male suspect grabbed “a plastic cup filled with liquid” and threw it at the head of a 9-year-old boy, who was an innocent bystander. Moments later, the two suspects left the scene of the assault.

Police say the mother who confronted the suspect about profanities suffered bruises and needed medical attention at the scene. No other significant injuries were reported.

I haven’t been to the in several years. My parents use to take us there when we were kids and we always had a good time there. To continue our tradition in our family I took my Children to the Zoo and the park after church and we ate our lunch all together at the Zoo. Now in the almost 55 plus years I have never any problems at the zoo. Recently I have heard nothing but negative things about the Zoo. First off we are very fortunate to have a Zoo which is free. I have been to other cites in the country and you have pay an entry fee. With that being said . This may have to done to curtail the violence and prevent people who go there to look for a fight or shoot at each other. Having paying customers allows the trouble makers may change their minds and go somewhere else. And of course the Zoo makes a little money. Just a thought.

Animals in the zoo. It isn’t even safe to go to Forest Park in broad daylight anymore. Something needs to done about these people.
