11-year-old charged for threatening Centralia Junior High

MARION COUNTY, Ill. – A 11-year-old girl was charged Wednesday after sending threatening messages against Centralia Junior High School.

According to the Centralia Illinois Police Department, the first threat came from the girl who stated in a message she would harm anyone that went to the Centralia Junior High School on Thursday.

Centralia City School canceled classes on Thursday in caution, but police assured the public the case is now closed.

The school’s patrol division was able to determine where the message originated from and took the 11-year-old girl into custody. Police said the mother of the girl fully cooperated with police to bring the case to a close.

According to the Marion County States Attorney’s Office, the girl did not qualify for detainment and was released to a family member. She has been charged with felony disorderly conduct.

Police said while in the process of investigating the original threat, the girl confessed about posting a separate threat on social media. Centralia City School officials were notified.

The girl was again charged with felony disorderly conduct and released to a guardian.
