STATE PARK PLACE, Ill. – A woman from the unincorporated Metro East community of State Park Place was arrested Tuesday for allegedly shooting her boyfriend at their home.

According to a statement from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened just after 5:30 p.m. at a home in the 8900 block of Rene Avenue.

While en route to the residence, the sheriff’s deputies and officers with the Collinsville Police Department were told the suspected shooter was still at the scene.

Authorities arrived at the home and found a 31-year-old man had been shot once in the chest. The victim was rushed to a St. Louis-area hospital, where he’s said to be in stable condition.

The sheriff’s office said law enforcement detained the victim’s girlfriend, identified as 27-year-old Edith Caudillo, for the shooting. A motive for the shooting was not provided.

On Wednesday, the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Caudillo with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm. She remains in custody.
