ST. LOUIS – Hundreds gathered Saturday to say goodbye to St. Louis’ own Ted Drewes Jr.

Ted Drewes Jr. died at the age of 96 on August 26. He is well remembered as a boisterous businessman who took his father’s frozen custard business to new heights in St. Louis over several decades.

A memorial church service was held Saturday morning at the Chapel at St. Timothy & St. Titus at Concordia Seminary of St. Louis. The ceremony involved speeches and more in memory of Ted Jr.

In Ted Drewes style, there was even a floral arrangement in the shape of an upside-down Ted Drewes custard.

Ted Jr.’s father, Ted Sr., opened his first frozen custard shop in St. Petersburg, Florida, in 1929, then set his footprint in St. Louis one year later. When his father passed, Ted Jr. fully embraced the family business, spending countless hours behind the counter at the iconic Chippewa location.
