ST. LOUIS – Two individuals are dead after a quadruple shooting Wednesday evening.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to a shooting in the 5000 block of Kensington Ave. in the Academy/Sherman Park neighborhood just before 5 p.m.

Four adults were shot. Three were transported to the hospital after being critically injured. One man and a 21-year-old woman succumbed to their injuries, SLMPD said.

A 31-year-old man is left in critical condition, and a 21-year-old man was shot in the arm and is expected to survive.

According to police, there were at least two shooters involved. Authorities say they are familiar with the vacant lot where the shooting took place. Crime data shows at least eight people have been shot in the same area this year, prior to Wednesday.

Police credit an off-duty firefighter for stopping and rendering aid before the ambulance arrived.

The homicide unit is investigating. Anyone with information is urged to contact CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477).

This is a developing story. More will be posted as it comes into the FOX 2 newsroom.
