ST. LOUIS – The owners of three beloved restaurants on Morgan Ford Road have announced all of their closures Wednesday.

Zach and Mary Rice, owners of Black Sheep, Three Little Monkeys, and Mama 2’s Biscuits, say eatery has held special meaning to them.

The pair have been part of the area’s culinary scene for over 17 years.

“Everything is so personal. The paint on the wall, every picture—everything was chosen with care,” Mary said. “Our neighborhood is like family, and that’s the biggest heartbreak.”

The decision to close came after years of reflection. Despite weathering the pandemic, navigating renovations, and rebranding efforts, the couple says rising costs and changing economic conditions made it impossible to continue.

“Everything is more expensive now for small businesses,” Zach explained. “It’s really tough on us.”

Known for hosting countless community events, from weddings to birthdays, the restaurants have been a cornerstone of Morgan Ford, and it’s a place the Rice’s have always felt passionate about supporting.

“We have so much personally invested in this neighborhood,” Mary said.

“Just because we’re closing our restaurants doesn’t mean we want to see it fail. Get out and support them—support this neighborhood, support small businesses. We want to see this neighborhood thrive,” Zach added. “That’s the uniqueness of St. Louis: these neighborhoods and their small, locally owned businesses.”

Black Sheep will remain open until Saturday, while Mama 2’s Biscuits and Three Little Monkeys will serve their final meals on Sunday. As for what’s next, Zach and Mary are hopeful.

“We’ve been married for five years and haven’t taken a honeymoon,” Zach said.

Mary added, “Maybe that’s what we’ll do next, and we’ll do our best to make sure someone else can carry on in these spaces and take care of the neighborhood.”fdf
