ST. LOUIS — Helene continues to show signs of weakening, but not completely. While a majority of the area remains quiet this morning, the cloud cover is extensive as the storm continues its spin closer to southern Illinois. We’re not completely out of the woods when it comes to more rain today, although it will not be as widespread or long-lasting like Friday.

Scattered showers, primarily east of the Mississippi River, will occur through the course of Saturday. There is dry air infiltrating this system on the western fringe, but a moisture core stretching from the western Atlantic is keeping a small chance of rain around. Eventually, Helene will not survive the ever-changing upper-level winds and will finally make its exit by Monday. Until then, we’re watching for scattered rain Saturday and spotty showers Sunday.

We look dry next week but a fast-moving front Tuesday night will bring a brief cool down Wednesday. Southerly winds return Thursday, helping to keep temperatures slightly above normal to close out next week.
