ST. LOUIS – On April 20, John Henry Davis was admitted to the hospital with abdominal pain. He died on April 30 at age 62.

The St. Louis Medical Examiner’s report, completed on July 29 but released on Monday, attributed Davis’ death to be from “complications of remote gunshot wound of torso.”

That gunshot wound happened nearly 35 years ago, when Davis was 27.

Davis was shot during a street robbery around 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 24, 1989, in the 1100 block of North Jefferson Avenue. He eventually recovered but the wound ultimately proved fatal.

The shooter, Ivory Jones, who was 38 at the time, was arrested and sentenced for the crime. Police said Jones died at age 73.
