ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – An apartment fire in Shrewsbury Monday night leaves a firefighter injured and multiple people displaced.

The fire occurred a little before 10 p.m. Monday night at the 7100 block of Murdoch Avenue. When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found a significant fire with heavy smoke spreading across multiple apartment units.

According to the Maplewood Fire Department, fire crews successfully executed a rescue operation from the second floor of the unit, saving a child and adult that were trapped inside the apartment.

During the rescue efforts, a Shrewsbury firefighter was left injured and had to be transported to a nearby medical facility. Officials say the injured firefighter faced serious injuries from inhaling smoke but is in stable condition inside the medical facility’s cardiac intensive care unit.

Following the fire, officials say the incident impacted ten apartment units, leaving at least 30 people displaced from their homes.

There is currently no information on what caused the fire to the apartment units.

This is a developing story; Fox 2 will provide more information once it comes into the newsroom.
