Stay visible outdoors during Missouri’s fall hunting seasons

ST. LOUIS — The Missouri Department of Conservation is reminding anyone who enjoys the outdoors about safety precautions during fall hunting seasons. While many link hunting with November’s firearms deer season, some hunting activities are already underway across the state.

Dan Zarlenga from the Missouri Department of Conservation says visibility is important for non-hunters. He recommends wearing bright colors, such as hunter orange, and using brightly colored backpacks when in areas where hunting may occur. This advice extends to pets, which should wear safety vests and remain leashed.

For hunters, Zarlenga stressed the need to confirm targets before shooting and to be aware of surroundings. Non-hunters are advised to stick to established trails and research active hunting seasons in their planned recreation areas.

The main firearms deer season runs November 16-26 this year. During this peak hunting period, Zarlenga suggests non-hunters consider visiting locations that prohibit hunting, such as state parks.
