ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Walk of Fame added another star in the Delmar Loop Thursday.

The late Temptations singer Dennis Edwards is the newest name on the path.

“It’s a longtime coming,”  Brenda Edwards, widow of Dennis, said. “Dennis was an honorary resident of St. Louis. He traveled the world, but he always came home to St. Louis, Missouri.”

Joe Edwards, founder of the St. Louis Walk of Fame, read a list of achievements for the vocalist.

“They might not recognize his name,” Edwards said. “But they sure as heck recognize the Temptations and the Contours before that, who had “Do You Love Me?” and was a huge part of their subsequent years, influencing them in a huge way.

When he joined the Temptations in 1968, he was noted for his grit and growl in his voice. It’s Dennis Edwards on the grammy winning “Cloud Nine,”  “I Can’t Get Next to You,” and “Ball of Confusion.”

Flags will fly at half-staff in Missouri on Friday

“St. Louis has had a bigger influence than any other city,”  Edwards added. “Bigger than New York or LA. Nashville big influence in country but in St. Louis it’s everything.”

Edwards joins more than 160 sets of stars and plaques, which pay tribute to those that paved the way.

“(Dennis and I had) come down,”  Brenda said.  “But he never mentioned having one. He had so many accolades all over the world, but this one is special one because it’s very personal. He loved St. Louis. He loved St. Louis sports and St. Louis music and the people of St. Louis.”

Dennis Edwards’ star is located in front of the Moonrise Hotel, in the 6100 block of Delmar.
