ST. LOUIS – The City of St. Louis says eminent domain proceedings are underway for nearly 80 properties in north city neighborhoods.

Those properties are located near the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency building , a large-scale government facility expected to open in 2025.

Many of those properties are also owned by Paul McKee’s NorthSide Registration Project, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and St. Louis Business Journal . The project has faced significant delays in recent years.

The St. Louis Development Corp. has sent 60-day notices to the property owners and could file petitions two months after those notices if the City of St. Louis can’t reach deals with property owners.

The push for eminent domain comes as the city aims to address vacant properties . During a recent community conference on the issue, St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones expressed the need to hold owners accountable if they leave properties vacant without adequate care.

The city is also moving forward with an eminent domain petition in hopes to acquire the abandoned Railway Exchange building downtown.

This mayor is awful! She’s showing she’s the enemy of north St. Louis residents!

It's only beneficial if the city actually cleans it up. There are far too many LCRA and SLDC properties sitting neglected and vacant throughout the city. Simply holding them as is on property books is still neglectful. Look anywhere north of Delmar. The city is land grabbing, expecting big developments due to the NGA. Shameful. What the article doesn't articulate is how many delays are due to the city adding red tape to processes to prevent current owners from completing (ask Larry Rice), so theycan set up the land grab.
