ST. PETERS, Mo. — First responders found a young paramedic dead Monday morning. Paramedic Michael Clarke, 27, of the St. Charles County Ambulance District, died unexpectedly while on duty. Clarke was found unresponsive in a bedroom at Station 12 in St. Peters when he failed to respond to a 911 call assignment shortly before 7 a.m.

Despite resuscitation efforts by his colleagues and subsequent treatment at Barnes St. Peters Hospital, Clarke did not survive. The cause of death has not yet been released.

Clarke had been with district for two years, joining in November 2022. He was known for his friendly and positive attitude. Earlier this year, Clarke and two colleagues received recognition for their lifesaving efforts during a cardiac arrest incident on January 5.

The ambulance district is working with Clarke’s family to arrange memorial services, which will be announced at a later date.
