Three charged after fleeing from police in Chesterfield

CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – Three suspects were charged Monday after fleeing from Chesterfield police last week.

According to police, Markita Jackson, 25, Sherrell Iverson, 22, and Mya Powell, 25, fled from authorities on Thursday when Chesterfield police attempted to stop their vehicle for alleged theft from a business.

Police first located the vehicle on Interstate 64 near Boone’s Crossing; when police turned on their lights and siren, the suspect’s vehicle accelerated at a high rate. Police eventually ended their pursuit due to high traffic volume in the area.

As the suspect’s vehicle continued to travel at a high rate, they eventually collided with another vehicle, causing the vehicle to stop.

Authorities responded to the crash, where the three occupants were treated by paramedics and transported to a local hospital. Police said the other driver involved in the crash was not injured.

Powell, as the driver of the vehicle, was charged with one count of aggravated fleeing a stop or detention under the valentine’s law, which can increase penalty for fleeing from law enforcement. Powell was given a $500,000 bond with no ten percent.

Jackson and Iverson were occupants in the vehicle and were charged with stealing and released with a city of Chesterfield court date.

Valentine’s Law , named after the late St. Louis County Police Detective Antonio Valentine, took effect on August 28, 2024. The new law creates a crime for fleeing from police in a vehicle. It applies when someone speeds away from a police stop.
