    22-year-old arrested for murder in St. Clair County

    ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. – A 22-year-old man was arrested Tuesday in connection to a March 2024 murder in Washington Park.

    According to Washington Park Police, Steven Tiller Jr., 22, of Belleville, Illinois, allegedly shot and killed George Smith, 39, in the 6000 block of Forest Blvd.

    Police responded to the shooting that took place outside of a business, and Smith was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.

    Tiller was taken into custody on Friday and is being held at the St. Clair County Jail. He was charged with first-degree murder and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.
