KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs will be getting another piece added to their running back room.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire was activated to the 53-man roster on Tuesday. He is on pace to play for the first time this season after being placed on the NFL’s Reserve/Non-football illness list.

It was not stated why Edwards-Helaire was placed on the list but he has been dealing with PTSD since 2018 after an 18-year-old who tried to rob him and his teammate was shot and killed.

He also heroically shielded a teenager during the Chiefs Rally shooting in February and was honored by the the Uvalde Foundation For Kids .

Edwards-Helaire has spent all five seasons with the Chiefs. He re-signed with the team on a one-year, $1.7 million deal in the offseason.

He joins a running back room consisting of Kareem Hunt, Samaje Perine and Carson Steele, with Isiah Pacheco out due to injury.

Chiefs WR Rashee Rice has successful surgery; will miss rest of season: reports

Hunt has played well and will likely remain the starter for the near future, but Edwards-Helaire could grab hold of the second running back spot considering his experience within the Chiefs offense.

The Chiefs will head on the road to face the San Francisco 49ers in a Super Bowl rematch on Sunday at 3:25 p.m.
