FERGUSON, Mo. – A dispute between adult siblings resulted in a shooting and standoff with police outside a Ferguson home.

The shooting and standoff unfolded in the 10600 of Woodwind Drive around 11:30 a.m.

Police were responding to a disturbance call at that location, but gunshots rang out before officers arrived.

Authorities located a gunshot victim and learned the alleged shooter, the victim’s brother, had barricaded himself inside the home.

“We set up containment; negotiated with the individual for approximately two hours and were successfully able to coach this individual out of the residence,” Ferguson Police Chief Troy Doyle said.

The standoff ended peacefully as the SWAT team made its way near the home. The shooter surrendered and was taken into custody.

Police said the incident was domestic in nature.

“A disturbance between two siblings where a gun was introduced, and a shot was fired,” Doyle said. “We all know the serious nature of domestic violence … By this being domestic violent month, this is just one of these things we have to pay attention to.”

Some Ferguson residents who watched the incident unfold are glad no one else was injured

“Very shocking, but the power of prayer works. When you pray together, God will intervene,” Elder Gregory Davis said. “And this shouldn’t happen nowhere. We should be able to get along with each other; love each other; division is never good.”

It’s still unclear what charges the suspect might face or what lead up to the incident, but we are told the person who was shot was not seriously injured.

The case remains under investigation.
