Fatal crash closes I-70 in Madison County, Illinois

TROY, Ill. — Interstate 70 is closed after a crash near Old Staunton Road at mile marker 18. Eastbound I-70 and a portion of I-55 is shut down. The collision happened around 3:30 a.m. and there is a large traffic backup in the area.

A Volkswagen Jetta drove off of the highway and into the guardrail. A semi truck slammed into the car.

A medical helicopter was dispatched to the area to take the driver of the car to a hospital. Illinois State Police say that the collision was fatal.
