ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. – St. Charles City-County Library CEO Jason Kuhl announced Friday that he will step down from his role next month, leaving the district to pursue a similar leadership role in a different state.

Kuhl will resign from CEO duties on Nov. 4, according to a spokesperson from the St. Charles City-County Library District. He announced the decision to staff members in an email Friday afternoon.

Kuhl shared the following statement to St. Charles City-County Library staff members on his upcoming departure:

“I am honored and grateful to have been allowed to serve in this position for nearly seven years, and I am proud of the organization’s accomplishments during that time. I was recently offered and accepted a position as a CEO at a major library outside of Missouri. Going forward, I wish nothing but the best for the St. Charles City-County Library, its terrific staff and the community.”

    Daily News

The 2024 calendar year presented some challenges for the St. Charles City-County Library District. In June, its board of trustees voted unanimously to indefinitely table a proposal that, if passed, would have led to the imminent closure of three counties libraries.

Officials have since ended talks to close those three branches. Factors such as inflation, changes in reading preferences, and a projected budget shortfall prompted previous discussions of closures.

The St. Charles City-County Library District’s next CEO will be determined at a later time.
