ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis man was recently hit by a car while crossing the street in his wheelchair and also walking his dog.

Soulard neighbors and businesses have shared surveillance video with FOX 2 in hopes to find the driver who took off.

The video shows Joe Tyler and his dog, Skiff, out on their morning walk at 12th Street and Russell Boulevard in Soulard. You can see a car hit Tyler and take off.

“I was yelling, ‘Stop, stop, stop!’ But they just barreled through me. I was scared. I was very scared,” said Tyler.

People passing by helped Tyler get back to his wheelchair. He spent the rest of the day in the emergency room. He is thankful to be alive.

“Apparently on video I did a really good Simone Biles and backflipped,” said Tyler. “Luckily, the chair took most of the hit. So I didn’t have any fractures.”

The car didn’t have a license plate or temp tags, Tyler said the only hope to find the driver is the surveillance video.

“I’m just fed up with the traffic lawlessness. It is sick,” said Tyler.

He is left with bruises on his arm and back but said the wheelchair took most of the damage. As for his dog, Skiff luckily is okay too.

“He was very frightened. We looked him over yesterday. Luckily, he didn’t get hit and like all loving dogs he was very happy when the police and firemen and everybody came because everybody pet him,” said Tyler.

St. Louis police are asking anyone with information about the hit-and-run to call CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477).

This is the second time in less than two weeks a person was walking their dog 🐕 and has been stuck by a vehicle 🚗 and it left the scene. This poor gentleman was handicapped and in a wheelchair 🦼 doing the best he could to get his dog 🐕 a roll or walk. What sickens me even more he was in a crosswalk and had the right of way. That’s why we have crosswalks . The suspect of course didn’t have his or her vehicle registered and drove away from the scene. This person is a scumbag Ahole. No presence of enforcing the laws by the police 👮🏾‍♂️. I don’t want to blame the Police 👮🏾‍♂️. I blame our injustice system and the lackluster leadership of City Hall. If it was up to me I would let the state take back control of the department and have the State Patrol help with enforcing these laws . But the PA’s Office has to prosecute these criminals In order for the system to work. I’m glad the victim lived but his wheelchair is messed up and I’m that is expensive. Hospital bills 💵 are also expensive.
