CLAYTON, Mo. – A teenager accused of carjacking an Uber driver in Clayton while armed is now behind bars, two weeks after the brazen crime unfolded.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged Russell Bryant Jr., 18, of St. Louis, with first-degree robbery and armed criminal action amid the investigation.

Bryant allegedly held and Uber driver at gunpoint and stole his car around 11 p.m. on Oct. 4 near the intersection of Forsyth Boulevard and Lyle Avenue.

Investigators say, when the driver arrived to the pick-up location, Bryant asked to be dropped off at a different destination than what was registered in the Uber app. The driver declined to take Bryant to a different location, then Bryant reportedly offered a cash payment to change the location. The driver still declined to switch the location.

After that, the driver allegedly opened the passenger door and asked Bryant out of the car. Investigators say Bryant then pulled a gun on the victim and drove away in his vehicle.

Authorities found the stolen car last weekend abandoned in the City of St. Louis. The investigation then linked Bryant to the vehicle.
