ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis Circuit Court judge signed an arrest warrant for a St. Louis man wanted for a 2022 murder in the city’s Fountain Park neighborhood.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s probable cause statement, the killing took place on the morning of Nov. 16, 2022, in the 1100 block of Aubert Avenue.

Officers found the victim, identified as Jerry McCulley, on the floor of his home, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. McCulley was taken to the hospital, where he later died. He was 29.

Investigators learned Jimmie Spann, 58, entered McCulley’s home with a gun and demanded property from the victim. Spann then shot McCulley and ordered another person in the home to go through McCulley’s pockets.

Breaking News

Police said Spann forced that second person to leave the home with him. However, that person was able to get away from Spann after a short period.

The probable cause statement alleges Spann’s cell phone placed him in the area at the time of the shooting.

At present, Spann is in custody out of state on unrelated charges. The probable cause statement did not say where.

The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Spann with first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping, unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, attempted first-degree robbery, and four counts of armed criminal action. Once in custody, Span will be held without bond.
