Tulsa Air and Space Museum launching STEAM themed playground

    2024-05-17

TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa Air and Space Museum announced the addition of a STEAM themed playground as a way for children to engage with science, technology, engineering, arts and math concepts.

The rocket-themed playground is set to open on Friday at 2 p.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the museum.

The Tulsa Air and Space Museum says the playground was provided by a $50,000 ARPA grant from the City of Tulsa. An additional "moon dome" climbing toy was funded by the museum's board of directors and staff.

The new playground was installed at the existing playground area where children and families can play and watch aircrafts on the Tulsa International Airport runway.

"The addition of a playground will enhance the overall experience for families, allowing them to both explore the museum exhibits and provide an opportunity for their children to play and expend energy," said Eric Anderson, Tulsa Air and Space Museum board member in a press release.

The museum has not had a playground since 2015 due to aging and disrepair.

Tulsa Air and Space Museum says the playground is designed to accommodate children of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
