BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — FOX23 is learning new details about the man at the center of an incident involving Broken Arrow Police that triggered an internal investigation.
An officer arrested the homeowner for a parking violation last week in a neighborhood near 91st and Elm.
When Broken Arrow Police Chief Brandon Berryhill looked into the arrest, he released the homeowner and put the officer on administrative leave.
FOX23 went to that neighborhood on Wednesday and talked with the man who was arrested.
Richard McMahon was the person taken to the ground and arrested in the body-camera video. The Broken Arrow homeowner spoke to FOX23 off mic saying he is no stranger to the Broken Arrow police.
While he was suddenly released after this arrest, FOX23 learned that he's had several encounters with neighbors who said they aren't surprised this is how it played out with police.
The body camera video released by Broken Arrow Police is dramatic.
The video shows McMahon being manhandled by police all over a parking violation.
Police and McMahon said he parked in front of a truck that was parked in his cul-de-sac in an attempt to block an individual from leaving before police arrived.
When police arrived on the scene, McMahon was questioned about the incident.
Then officers said they needed his driver license so he could be issued a ticket, which sparked the confrontation.
The homeowner attempted to close the door on the officers and the officer pushed his way in saying "I'm investigating a traffic crime, you are detained".
After a brief altercation, the officers forced the man on the ground and placed him under arrest.
While McMahon was released a day later, he's not out of trouble.
He spoke with FOX23 in his driveway and in his home as he showed us videos of other encounters he's had with neighbors.
According to court records, he has two protective orders against him and some neighbors are saying he's no angel.
"After about a month since we moved in, we had our neighbor over here. Basically he has just been harassing us,” said Chyanne Armstrong, neighbor.
Armstrong recalled one instance where she was speaking with a friend outside her home.
"He started calling us the ‘n-word’ and cussing us out and that's how it started," Armstrong said.
The incident between McMahon and police remains under investigation with the chief not saying publicly why his agency released McMahon and why the officer who arrested him is sidelined while the internal affairs investigation continues.
FOX23 searched through court records and found that McMahon is charged with several misdemeanors including seven counts of violating a protective order.
He is set to appear in court on those charges on June 10.
