16-year-old dead after crash in Collinsville

COLLINSVILLE, Okla. — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said a 16-year-old boy is dead after a crash in Collinsville Saturday night.

OHP said the teenager was driving westbound on East 136th Street North when he ran a stop sign and hit another car driving northbound with four people at the North Sheridan Road Intersection.

The 16-year-old boy was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver and a passenger of the second car were pinned for 20 minutes before Collinsville Fire used extrication tools to get them out. They were taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The other two passengers were an 11-year-old and a 1-year-old, OHP said. The 11-year-old was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

After the accident cleared, Verdigris Valley Electric was at the intersection because a pole was out due to the crash.

Collinsville Public Schools Superintendent Jeremy Hogan confirmed the 16-year-old boy was a junior at Collinsville High School. He said there will be resources at the high school on Monday.

Hogan shared the following statement on Facebook Sunday:

    "Dear Cardinal Family,

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of a tragic accident that took the life of one of our high school students last night. Additionally, members of our community and another student were injured in the accident. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families involved and to all members of the school community who will be personally affected by this crisis. During this difficult time, counselors will be available on Monday morning to provide support to our students and staff as we navigate through this challenging situation.

Further updates will be shared at the appropriate time."

The intersection of North Sheridan Road and East 136th Street North is now back open.
